Fell into an aviation rabbit-hole and ended up on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! showing a picture of the wing deflection test for the 787.
Read the comments below the person who links to a video of the 777 undergoing the same test and then watch the video.

Nice. That's actually the VERY FIRST TIME I have ever been to Reddit for anything, so...thanks? And it was just as stupid as I had imagined :D

I don’t spend much time there, but it’s usually what you’d expect.

I was pretty prolific with Fark about 10 years ago (which many would say gave rise to Digg, Reddit, etc) and it was a nice mix of cool photoshops and insane commentary and humor. But those sites are such black holes for your time. It’s just more than we can process. At some point, media is going to trend back away from the "many to many" model and back towards the "few to many." Someone has to vet what's good/important/worthwhile.

It really depends on the sub, and how popular it is.

This reminds me of watching many of the same tests for the 737, etc, from Wings on Discovery Channel in the 80s. Heck, this footage might be from the show...

This one in particular is from a PBS documentary on the development of the 777.

My grandpa was head engineer at Boeing Wichita and he designed one of these rigs back in, I believe, the 80s. Not sure what plane.
